Tarika Holland, her artist name being is0latedbeauty, is a 16 year old aspiring dancer from Augusta, Georgia. Her name “is0latedbeauty” evolved from her frustration of people misusing or overusing the word ”different.” Her name means set aside from everyone else, a sight like no other, nothing comparable, nothing similar, and her name means different without saying different. Earlier this month, three high school girls from Maplewood, NJ performed a powerful lyrical dance to Nina Simone’s song “Strange Fruit” for a Special Dance event taken place at Columbia High School. However, their school community deemed it offensive.
