Scholars Not Strippers: Miami Northwestern High School Golden Girls Protest The Online Hate Against Their Coach For Choice of Performance Outfits

After going viral and being harshly criticized and ridiculed for the choice of their dance costumes…The 2017-2018 Miami Northwestern HS Golden Girls have taken a stand for their coach, Traci Young-Byron against the recent criticism of their performance outfits.

For the 2017-2018 season, Traci nicknamed the team “The TENacious Ten“. To be Tenacious is tending to keep a firm hold of something; clinging or adhering closely. On October 20, the girls  collectively chosen to sit out on one of the biggest games of their dance season to protest against the online hate.

On October 12, the MNW GGirls style for the next performance was inspired by an avant-garde Barbie Doll and the judgement continued.

Finally on October 20, the girls had enough and decided not to perform as a protest. At the game, they carried signs that read “Sitting 2 Take A Stand”, “Leave Our Teacher Alone”, and “We are more than a costume”. It forced the fans to miss out on what could have been next greatest performance plus the costumes.

Traci took to her Instagram expressing her gratitude and thanks towards her team standing up to the online hate being received.

Here are small profiles shared by Traci of the 2017-2018 MNW GGirls Tenacious Ten

There have been documented proof of the girls being scholars but unfortunately it did not get as many shares as the online videos of their costumes and performance. PrettyBrownDancers.com was adamant about doing this blog post out of fear it will be overshadowed. HOWEVER, we were intrigued by these girls who are ages 16 to 18 who decided to show the world why they are SCHOLARS NOT STRIPPERS!

  1. I think your team is very creative. Our society is very quick to judge without doing any type of research. When I see your team, I see elements of jazz, infused with Carribean flavor. I love the technique and energy you young ladies put out there. Keep doing what you are doing, and don’t let people deter you from what you are doing.
